Techlust: Intel Core i7

Upcoming new processor

3.2Ghz 8-thread processor?

Yeeessss…

Mind you, my lust for it is heavily tempered by the fact that this blog is written on a five-year-obsolete system that’s barely adequate to play World of Warcraft on, much less anything particularly heavy on CPU use. Which is a pity, as multimedia mastery is absolutely vital for the journalism industry now, but that’s a topic for another day…

  1. I’ll probably have this in 3 years, when all the coalkidz have Sandy Bridge processors.

  2. But you left out the most interesting part: the replacement of the now-ubiquitous Front Side Bus. Not only is it high speed and has some interesting functionality for servers, it marks the integration of even more of a full computer system into a single die. All four cores, the memory controller, and all cache are on a single die. Outside of the RAM, I/O controllers, and graphics, the majority motherboard’s functionality has been reduced to a single piece of silicon.

We’re getting even closer to consumer PC on a chip.
